Community Comes Together to Keep DCCH Center’s Kitchen Running
Over the past several months, the Northern Kentucky community demonstrated the true spirit of a DCCH Center Heart Healer, rallying together when our children and staff needed it most.
In early March, DCCH Center celebrated receiving a grant that covered nearly half the cost of replacing our decades-old commercial oven and cooktop. Our kitchen staff eagerly anticipated preparing meals with the new equipment. Unfortunately, that excitement was short-lived when the brand-new stove was deemed inoperable shortly after installation.
Finding a solution was far from simple. While we worked through the unexpected challenge of replacing the faulty equipment, one thing remained unchanged: 32 children and dozens of staff members still needed three nutritious meals every day.
Recognizing that this was not a challenge we could overcome alone, DCCH Board Members and supporters shared our story on social media and asked the community for help.
The response was extraordinary.
In less than 12 hours, more than 300 messages poured in from individuals asking how they could help. Supporters offered prayers, donations, meal deliveries, introductions to potential resources, and countless words of encouragement. The overwhelming generosity of our community was both humbling and inspiring, bringing relief – and even a few tears – to those working to navigate the situation.
Initially, we believed the support would help us bridge a 30-day gap while we secured a replacement stove. Instead, the process took nearly three months.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, meals continued to arrive, donations helped meet critical needs, and volunteers and partners stepped forward every step of the way. A new commercial stove was finally purchased and installed a few weeks ago, and our kitchen is once again fully operational.
Today, our kitchen staff is thrilled to be cooking again, having already prepared more than 50 home-cooked meals with the new equipment. The children are just as excited to see their favorite meals return to the menu, often asking, “What are you cooking next?”
As we reflect on the past several months, our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. Whether you provided meals, made a financial gift, helped us secure or install the new stove, shared our story, or simply kept DCCH Center in your prayers, your support made a meaningful difference.
What makes this story so remarkable is not only the immediate response, but the sustained generosity that carried us through more than 75 days of uncertainty. Your commitment and kindness ensured that every child in our care continued to receive the nourishment, comfort, and consistency they deserve.
Thank you for being Heart Healers. Your compassion and generosity continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of the children served by DCCH Center.
