The Truth About Foster Care

The Truth About Foster Care

Top five misconceptions about foster care:

  • Foster kids are in care because they’re “bad’.
  • Foster parents need to be wealthy.
  • Foster kids will become abusive adults.
  • Foster parents have to be younger than 50.
  • Foster kids are damaged beyond help.
  • FALSE! Children are placed in foster care for many reasons, almost all having to do with the parents’ behavior. Foster families need to be financially stable, but being wealthy is NOT a requirement. Foster kids placed in a loving home, with committed parents can grow up to be emotionally healthy adults. Foster parents can be ANY age, as long as they are stable and in a position to properly care for a child. Foster kids can overcome their traumas and thrive in a supportive home.
