Join our Heart Healers Community!

Your time has the power to change a child’s life. At DCCH, volunteers help our kids feel seen, supported, and valued—whether through mentoring, helping with a project, or offering behind‑the‑scenes support.

Every moment you give shows a child that they matter. And those moments add up to hope, healing, and brighter futures.

Because of caring people like you, we’re able to meet—and often exceed—the needs of every child we serve. Your presence truly makes a difference.

Direct care opportunites

Direct Care Opportunities require VIRTUS training, an online program dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for children and preventing child sex abuse. Some opportunities may involve specific day and time commitments, depending on the role.

Mentor

As a mentor, you’ll help our kids form supportive relationships with trusted adults beyond the DCCH team.

Mentors meet, at minimum, weekly for 2–4 hours and stay connected for the length of the youth’s stay. We ask for a long-term commitment to ensure consistency and trust. Mentors must be 21 or older and hold a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Apartment Volunteer

Assist our residential staff with daily activities and commit to volunteering once a week for at least six months.

Volunteers must be 18 or older and will not be left unattended with residents.

Guardian Angels School Tutor

Serve as a tutor and offer personalized guidance in areas like reading, art, music, and more. Your support helps students gain confidence and succeed academically.

For the benefit of our learners, we ask tutors to commit to steady, recurring days and times.

Kitchen Volunteer

Help ensure our residents receive nutritious meals by prepping, portioning, serving, and delivering food during a weekly 1.5-hour shift.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Childcare for Foster Care Meeting

Offer reliable childcare that allows foster parents to focus on their two-hour support group sessions.

Volunteers ages 16–17 may serve with adult supervision; volunteers 18 and older may participate independently.

Indirect care opportunities

Some roles may require specific time commitments.

Welcome Center Support

Help us provide a friendly and welcoming experience for every guest by greeting visitors, responding to phone calls, and supporting basic office duties.

For a dependable front desk presence, volunteers commit to a consistent weekly shift of 4–5 hours.

Special Events

Be part of the magic behind our special events! Join teams like Swing Into Spring or Heart Helpers to help bring impactful experiences to life, increase community engagement, and support our fundraising mission.

Volunteers ages 16–17 may serve with adult supervision; volunteers 18 and older may participate independently.

Host a Movie Night

Enjoy a fun and meaningful night by providing a meal for our kids during their movie night. Bring your family, friends, or coworkers—DCCH will set the date, you bring the food and drinks and stay to enjoy the show together!

Facilities

Help keep our campus welcoming and well-maintained by assisting with light cleaning, organizing spaces, painting, and jumping in on special projects.

Volunteers ages 16–17 may serve with adult supervision; volunteers 18 and older may participate independently.

Join a group

Across our community, volunteer groups come together to provide support for our horses, create moments of joy for the kids we serve and transforms donations into community support. Their collective effort reminds our kids that they are surrounded by people who care deeply. We invite you to join them and be part of something truly meaningful.

Equine Sessions

Join our Equine Volunteer team by helping with horse care, training exercises, and equine sessions—choose one area or enjoy all of them!

Volunteers must have horse handling experience, be capable of lifting 40 lbs., and be at least 18 years old. VIRTUS training is required.

HALO: Helping All the Little Ones

Become part of a team that generates funds to support memorable on-campus and off-site experiences. Meetings are held at DCCH on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00pm.

Volunteers must be 18+, and VIRTUS training is required.

Flea Market

Our Flea Market features a wide variety of new and gently used merchandise and clothing donated by our community. This unique market is entirely volunteer-led, and 100% of proceeds directly support the children at DCCH.

Join our team by helping with cleaning, organizing, and pricing items, as well as supporting sales on market days. A weekly volunteer shift (hours vary seasonally) keeps our market thriving.

Volunteers must be 16 or older, able to stand for extended periods, and are able to lift a maximum of 30 lbs.
