Financial Controller / Full time – onsite
ORGANIZATION and LOCATION
DCCH Center for Children and Families; Fort Mitchell, Kentucky
JOB SUMMARY
DCCH’s Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of our 177-year-old organization, including accounting, financial reporting and budgeting. This role ensures that the organization’s financial systems are accurate, efficient, and in compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and funder requirements. This position reports directly to the President and CEO and is responsible for oversight and management of accurate financial information and financial controls.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Manage and maintain the general ledger and accounting systems for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare and provide timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the Finance Committee, Board, Leadership Team and other stakeholders.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare cash forecasts.
- Support the development of the annual operating budget.
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports for grantors, funders, and government agencies.
- Ensure financial reporting complies with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Coordinate and manage the annual audit process with the external auditors.
- Prepare the annual cost report and other annual grant submissions for country and state funding.
- Oversee compliance with IRS Form 990 filing and other nonprofit regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Accounting Operations:
- Work closely with the Accounting Staff to review, approve and support staff with:
- Recording and payment of Accounts Payables.
- Monthly and year-end journal entries and support, and other accounting functions.
- Bank Reconciliations and review journal entries and reconciliations.
- Oversee restricted/unrestricted fund tracking and grant accounting.
- Maintain and improve accounting systems and financial procedures.
- Strategic and other one-off projects:
- Provide financial insight and analysis to leadership for strategic decision-making.
- Lead or participate in special projects as needs arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 5 years prior experience as a Finance Director, Assistant Controller or Financial Controller.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure of tight deadlines.
- Solid communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
- Must handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
