Community Relations Coordinator
The Community Relations Coordinator serves as a key liaison between the organization and the community, fostering relationships that advance the organization’s mission and visibility. This position reports to the Director of Advancement and is responsible for coordinating volunteer engagement efforts, developing community partnerships, supporting outreach initiatives, and serving as a spokesperson and ambassador for the organization to strengthen community awareness, volunteer involvement, and overall organizational support.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Engagement and Stewardship
- Actively recruit, welcome, and compliantly onboard individuals, students, professionals, community groups, and others to share their time and talents in support of DCCH’s organizational needs.
- Develop meaningful volunteer engagement opportunities that foster connection to DCCH’s mission and encourage ongoing participation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteers, cultivating strong relationships and ensuring an engaging, rewarding, and well-supported volunteer experience.
- Match volunteers’ skills, interests, and availability with meaningful opportunities that meet organizational needs and provide pathways for deeper involvement and leadership.
- Maintain consistent communication with volunteers through email, phone, events, newsletters, and other engagement channels.
- Monitor volunteer participation, engagement, and retention, and implement strategies to strengthen long-term volunteer involvement.
- Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions through personalized communications, appreciation activities, events, and other stewardship efforts.
- Serve as the liaison between volunteers and internal staff, gathering feedback, addressing concerns, and identifying opportunities to improve both the volunteer experience and organizational effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer records, engagement activity, and related information in the organization’s volunteer database.
Donor Engagement and Stewardship
- Coordinate with the Director of Advancement and President / CEO to cultivate and strengthen relationships with current and prospective donors through personalized communication, outreach, events, and meaningful mission-focused engagement opportunities.
- Serve as a consistent point of contact for donors, fostering positive and lasting relationships and ensuring a responsive, welcoming, and engaging donor experience.
- Develop and coordinate opportunities for donors to connect with DCCH’s mission, programs, and impact and deepen their understanding of how their support makes a difference.
- Work with Director of Advancement to implement identified opportunities to increase donor engagement, involvement, and long-term commitment to DCCH.
- Partner with leadership and other staff to support donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and growth and retention strategies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records, communications, interactions, and engagement activity in the DonorPerfect database to allow for timely acknowledgments, personalized communications, recognition, impact updates, and meaningful follow-up.
Community Relations and Outreach
- Serve as an ambassador for DCCH, effectively communicating its mission, programs, and impact to volunteers, donors, community members, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with community organizations, businesses, civic groups, schools, professional organizations, and other community stakeholders.
- Coordinate and oversee community outreach activities, events, volunteer opportunities, and engagement initiatives that connect individuals and organizations with DCCH’s mission.
- Collaborate with the Special Events & Communications Coordinator to identify and develop stories of impact, donor newsletters, stewardship materials, and other communications that strengthen donor and community engagement.
- Represent DCCH at community events, meetings, presentations, networking opportunities, and other public-facing activities.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to increase awareness of DCCH’s mission, expand its network of supporters, and strengthen long-term community engagement and support.
Special Initiatives
- Co-lead the Holiday Helpers Program, coordinating community partners providing gifts and essential items for all DCCH Center programs.
- Support the volunteer efforts required to execute the annual Swing into Spring fundraising event.
- Plan and execute volunteer appreciation efforts during National Volunteer Appreciation Month and Week, including written recognition, spotlight features, and small events.
- Co-lead the planning and execution of the Thanks for Giving event, a key annual celebration recognizing both volunteers and donors.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in communications, nonprofit management, public relations, marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum of two years of experience in nonprofit, community relations, fundraising, volunteer management, community engagement, customer relations, or a related field.
- Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with a diverse range of individuals and organizations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and effectively utilize database and other technology platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff, leadership, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events, volunteer activities, and community engagement initiatives/
- Ability to represent DCCH Center professionally, enthusiastically, and compassionately in the community.
